IPTV figures boost Russian telco

2016-10-12    1264 Reads
Russia’s Rostelecom saw a sharp rise in its IPTV subscribers in the year to June 30.

As of the end of Q2, it had a total of 39 million, or 29% more than 12 months earlier.

Meanwhile, its pay-TV subscriber total, which included IPTV, grew by 9% over the same period to 9 million.

The telco’s revenues in H1 amounted to R144,258 million (€1,999 million), up 0.3% on the corresponding period in 2015.

However, both operating and net income (R16,733 million, -13%, and R4,603 million, -44% respectively) were significantly lower than a year earlier.

In his comments on the company’s results, Rostelecom’s president Sergei Kalugin said: “The digital sector continued to display strong growth dynamics in the second quarter, as we built up our subscriber base in the broadband and pay-TV market and attracted more than half of all new subscribers coming to the market. As a result, we were able to strengthen our competitive position by increasing market share to deliver an 11% rise in income in the digital segment”.
