German companies and government agencies have launched a joint initiative to coordinate the introduction of DVB-T2 HD services based on the DVB-T2 and HEVC standards replacing the current DVB-T based terrestrial TV services. The partners include public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, commercial broadcasters RTL and ProsiebenSat.1, the association of commercial radio and TV stations VPRT and the state media offices. The parties have set up a website and developed a logo for DVB-T2 HD-based services. The transfer from DVB-T to DVB-T2 is expected to start in several pilot regions in 2016 followed by a mass transfer in the beginning of 2017 and is expected to be completed by the middle of 2019.
